Wits University Welcomes Top Applicants for 2026 with Inspiring Campus Experience

Wits University recently hosted its annual Top Applicants Function, inviting some of the most promising candidates for 2026 to explore campus life and get a feel for what studying at one of South Africa’s leading universities is really like

Organised by the School Liaison Office, the event gave prospective students an exciting opportunity to meet deans, lecturers and researchers while discovering what makes Wits truly unique. Throughout the day, applicants visited faculty stands, attended informative sessions, and engaged directly with those shaping the academic programmes they’re interested in

In his keynote address, Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Zeblon Vilakazi encouraged applicants to think deeply about their purpose. He challenged them to find their “why”—the passion that will guide their studies and future careers. Professor Vilakazi also highlighted the growing role of technology in every field and urged students to use powerful tools like artificial intelligence ethically and responsibly.

Professor Vilakazi reminded students that success isn’t just about titles or money, but about the positive difference they make in their communities and beyond. He encouraged them to strive to become indispensable contributors to society, whether locally, across Africa, or globally.

For many attendees, the event offered not just useful information but a sense of belonging. Joshua Fynn, a top applicant from Amajuba High School, said he felt welcomed by the friendly environment and supportive students, making him confident that Wits is where he belongs. His experience echoed what many others felt—that the strong sense of community at Wits made a lasting impression

Overall, the Top Applicants Function gave students and families valuable insight into what life as a Witsie could look like in 2026. By blending practical information with an engaging campus experience, the event helped future students get excited about the possibilities ahead
