Understanding APS at UFS

Before exploring the courses, it’s important to understand how APS works at UFS.

The university calculates your APS using your six best academic subjects from the National Senior Certificate (NSC). Points are awarded based on the percentage achieved in each subject. For example:

  • Level 7 (80–100%) = 7–8 points

  • Level 6 (70–79%) = 6 points

  • Level 5 (60–69%) = 5 points

  • Level 4 (50–59%) = 4 points

  • Level 3 (40–49%) = 3 points

Life Orientation can add 1 extra point if you score 60% or higher.

In general, UFS requires a minimum APS of around 20 for some entry-level programmes, although each course may also have subject requirements.
