SANRAL Bursary 2024
The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) is a state-owned company responsible for the management, maintenance, and development of the national road network. SANRAL believes that education is the key to unlocking our country’s potential, and we're committed to supporting deserving students on their academic journey.
The bursary programme is open to both matriculants looking to pursue tertiary studies and current students already enrolled at a tertiary institution.

The programme supports studies in various fields that are critical to SANRAL’s operations, beyond just engineering. Limited awards on Postgraduate & undergraduate level are available in the following fields.

  • Civil engineering

  • Human Resources

  • Supply Chain Management

SANRAL bursary requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must NOT be older than 35 years of age
  • You must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
  • You must be studying or accepted to study full-time, towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in one of the fields of study listed above (the bursary does not cover part-time or distance learning)
  • You must be studying or accepted to study at a recognised and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa (the bursary does not cover studies at private institutions)
  • You must meet the academic requirements for your selected qualification
  • Matric students: you must have achieved a minimum overall average of 70%
  • University students: you must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60%
  • You must have proven financial need
  • You must NOT be currently receiving any other bursary funding
  • Students with disabilities are welcome to apply


How to apply

Applications must be submitted online at: SANRAL Bursary Application 2024

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disqualified):

  • ID document or birth certificate (certified copy)
  • Current Matric students: term 1 and 2 results (certified copy)
  • Current Tertiary students: full academic record on institutions letterhead (certified copy)
  • Proof of tertiary registration for 2024 (certified copy)
  • Motivational letter about yourself and why you should be awarded the bursary (1 page)
  • Parents or guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents or guardians proof of income (recent payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed or self-employed) (certified copies and not older than 3 months)
  • Parents or guardians proof of residence (water and electricity bill from the local council)

30 September 2023. (Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted – please apply before the closing date to ensure your application is considered.)
