The 2023 National Senior Certificate exams are scheduled to end on December 6, 2023. Mrs. Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Basic Education, is set to reveal the exam results on January 18, 2024. Candidates can expect to receive their results on January 19, 2024. Please note that technical issues may affect the availability of certain results.
- Candidates are urged to get their statements of results from their school/centre where they wrote the exams.
- Result queries should be submitted for investigation within 30 days after the release of results.
- Candidates must ensure that names and identity numbers reflect correctly on their statement of results and report any required corrections to the Department before 21 February 2024.
Get your Matric Results on your phone
First off, you’ll need to download the MatricsMate app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple iStore. Once that’s done, it’s registration time. You’ve got two registration options, and you can pick the one that suits you best: SMS or the USSD service.
For SMS registration:
- Send your ID number and exam number to 35658.
- You’ll receive a confirmation SMS to let you know you’re good to go.
- Just a heads up, SMSes cost R1, and free SMSes won’t work here.
- When the results drop, you’ll get them instantly.
If you’re going the USSD route:
- Dial *120*45856# on the release date.
- Answer a few quick questions.
- Enter your ID number.
- You’ll get your matric results for each subject.
- Do keep in mind that regular USSD rates apply.
Re-Mark/Re-Check of Examination Script
A candidate may apply at the prescribed fee for the re-mark/re-check of his/her examination scripts. Registration can be done at either the school or district office in the province or online at www.eservices.gov.za (all instructions appear on the reverse side of the Statement of Results).
Closing date for applications: 2 February 2024 for both manual applications and online applications.
Fees for re-marking and re-checking per subject:
Re-mark : R120.00
Re-check : R29.00
Viewing of scripts may only be done after a re-mark or re-check of results. The closing date for applications is 7 days after release of re-mark or re-check results. The fee for viewing is R234.00
Results of remarking will be released from 15 March 2024 and will be available at the school/exam centre where the candidate sat for their 2023 examinations.
June NSC Examinations
The February/March supplementary examination has been discontinued and is no longer an option. Instead, candidates can participate in a new examination held in May/June to enhance their results or fulfill outstanding requirements. The application deadline for the 2024 session is February 8, 2024
Conditions for entry
- Candidates can only register for subjects which they were registered for in any previous November examination.
- Candidates who were absent with a valid reason (medical unfit, death in the immediate family or other special reasons*) from one or more external question papers, may register for the NSC June examination, provided they have valid external paper marks (PAT, Oral and SBA).
- Any NSC candidate (who wrote exams from 2008 November onwards) who wants to improve their overall achievement status, or only wants to improve the achievement of a subject, may register for the NSC June examination.
- In the case where a candidate was absent for one or more papers in the November exam with a valid reason, the candidate has to write all the papers for the registered subject(s).
- In a case where an irregularity is being investigated, provisional enrolment for NSC June examination may be granted to the candidate concerned, pending the outcome of the investigation.
- Candidates who did not write or complete one or more of the NSC November examination question papers for reasons other than illness/injury or death in the family, may also apply to write the NSC June examination, provided they have valid external paper marks (PAT, Oral and SBA).
- Result queries should be submitted for investigation within 30 days after the release of results.
- Candidates must ensure that names and identity numbers reflect correctly on their statement of results and report any required corrections to the Department before 30/08/2024.
What can i do if i do not qualify to write the June NSC examination
Candidates, who do not qualify to write the June NSC examination, have the following options:
- Re-enrol for the NSC as a full-time repeater candidate at a school without delay, provided that the candidate is younger than 21 years of age. Candidates need to enroll for 7 subjects(including Life Orientation) and have to comply with all SBA requirements.
- Register as a part-time repeater candidate at a Public Adult Education Centre.
- Register for the Senior Certificate (SC) examination which is a school leaving qualification for adults and out-of-school learners who are above 21 years of age.
- Alternatively, candidates who were not successful in their examinations could consider vocational education and training. There are 50 Public Further Education and Training (FET) colleges across all provinces of South Africa comprising over 300 campuses or teaching sites.
