Requirements : English Home Language OR First Additional Language 5(60%+), Mathematics 5(60%+), Life Sciences AND/OR Physical Sciences 5(60%+)

Additional Information : When applying to the Faculty of Health Sciences, your selection will not be based solely on your school leaving results. A Composite Index (CI) is calculated with 60% from your academic results (five subjects) and 40% from your National Benchmark Test (NBT) scores. The academic score includes English, Mathematics, Physical Sciences or Life Sciences, and the best two other subjects. For Dental Science, both Physical Sciences and Life Sciences are required All Faculty of Health Sciences applicants, except those applying to the Graduate Entry Medical Programme (GEMP) or the Graduate Entry Physiotherapy Programme (GEPP), those who are in their final year of a degree and those who have already completed a degree, must write the NBT by 18 August before being considered for admission.

2026 WITS University Application Process

You may apply for a maximum of three programmes (order of choice does not matter).

Apply using your names as they reflect in your ID book/card or passport (do not use initials or nicknames). If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).

Try to keep your study options open, especially when applying for programmes in faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.

Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study. Ensure that you submit the application and receive a letter acknowledging that your application has been submitted.

A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required and can be paid via the self-service portal (Campus Finances tile).
