About TUT
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) was established in 2004 through the merger of three technikons. Its mission was to redress past inequalities by expanding access to higher education and creating an inclusive learning environment for all students. Within a short period, TUT grew into South Africa’s largest contact university, comprising seven faculties that offer programmes across a wide range of disciplines. In 2018, Times Higher Education (THE) ranked TUT among the top 1 000 universities worldwide and within the top 300 for engineering programmes, also placing it eighth nationally. In 2017, the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) recognised TUT as the leading University of Technology in Africa.
